Why Pawna Is Great for Families
A night at Pawna Lake can be one of the best family trips you take near Pune or Mumbai. Children get to see a big open lake, sit around a bonfire, look at more stars than they have ever seen and wake up somewhere completely different from home. For parents, it is a short drive, an easy overnight stay and very little planning.
That said, camping with kids needs a bit more thought than a trip with friends. This guide covers child pricing, which stays suit families, safety, packing and a few tips to keep everyone happy.
Child Pricing
This is one of the most common questions from parents, so here it is clearly:
- Kids up to 5 years: Free. No booking is needed for them.
- Kids aged 6 to 10: Half price at camps.
- Above 10: Charged as adults.
So a family of two adults and a 4-year-old in a Classic Camp Tent pays only for the two adults. Prices vary by date and some stays have a weekend rate, so check the booking page for your exact date. See all rates on the Pawna camping price page.
Best Stays for Families
Classic Camp Tent (₹999 per adult): A lakeside tent with dinner, snacks, tea/coffee, breakfast, bonfire, outdoor activities and parking. Great value for families with older kids who will love the tent experience.
Dome House (₹1,999 per adult): A lakeside dome cottage. More shelter and comfort than a tent, while still feeling like an adventure for children.
Diamond House (₹2,999 per person, minimum 2 guests charged): An AC cottage with dinner, breakfast, BBQ, bonfire and music. A good choice with toddlers, elders, or in the hot months.
Silva Villa (₹15,000 per night): A 3BHK farmhouse villa near Lonavala with a private pool, kitchen and 24×7 caretaker, sleeping up to 10. Ideal when two or three families travel together. A refundable ₹3,000 deposit applies, kitchen use is ₹1,000 if used, and pets are not allowed.

Things Kids Love at Pawna
- The bonfire — For most children, this is the highlight.
- Sunset by the lake — Let them watch the colours change over the water.
- Stargazing — On clear nights, try spotting constellations together.
- Outdoor games — Many camps have open space and outdoor activities.
- Kayaking with a parent — Available at some camps for around ₹150 per person, paid separately. Always with a life jacket.
- A short morning walk — Look for birds and explore around the camp.
- The pool at Silva Villa — If you choose the villa, the private pool keeps kids busy for hours, under adult supervision.
Safety Tips for Parents
- Supervise near the water at all times — Lakes can be deeper than they look. Do not let children go to the edge alone.
- No water activities after dark — Keep kayaking and boating to daylight hours, and only with life jackets.
- Watch the bonfire — Keep small children at a safe distance.
- Carry a torch for each older child — Campsites are dark at night.
- Keep a basic first-aid kit — Plasters, antiseptic, and any medicines your child usually needs.
- Mosquito protection — Use a child-safe repellent, especially in the monsoon.
- Pool supervision at the villa — An adult should always be present when children are in the pool.
When to Go with Kids
- October to February — The best time. Pleasant days and cool nights. Pack warm clothes for children.
- March to May — School holidays, but hot afternoons. An AC cottage or the villa pool helps.
- June to September — Beautiful and green, but wet. Better for families with older kids who enjoy the rain.

Making the Trip Smooth
- Leave early — Reach before check-in at around 2 PM so kids are not tired and cranky on arrival.
- Keep the drive in mind — Pune is about 1.5 to 2 hours away and Mumbai about 2.5 to 3 hours. Plan a snack stop.
- Add a fun stop — Wet n Joy near Lonavala is popular with kids if you want an extra day. The Bhaje and Karla caves are a good short outing for older children.
- Talk to the host — If your child has dietary needs, mention it when booking.
- Weekdays are quieter — If school timings allow, weekdays are calmer than busy weekends.
